"Avalon, Web of Magic; Circles in the Stream" Book 1 by Rachel Roberts
It hasn't been long since Emily had moved from her old old state. Her new town is nice, but not much goes on, and school is just around the corner. Her mom works at the Vet Clinic and after seeing the commotion, she's appalled. Somehow, in the suburbs of their neighborhood, a Leopard is taken in and is in really bad condition. She wonders why no one seems to see the bright green ooze coming out of every single one of wounds, and then she begins to think the animal is talking to her! When she asks where it came from, her mother tells her that the girl in the corner of the room found out in the woods. Emily didn't even notice her the entire time! When the dark haired girl eventually leaves, she runs right into the woods. Emily's mother's Vet assistant tells her that she's the creepy kid from Ravenswood Preserve, the place where nobody dares to enter due to it's long history of strange "Monsters" lurking there. The thought of monsters seems stupid to her, because she doesn't believe they exist. Her father, a scientist, has always told her if you can't explain it, it doesn't exist. She decides to just leave the thought alone, and continue on.

Later that night, when she checks back on the Leopard, that had apparently come out the "Haunted Woods", she still notices the light green ooze glowing through the gauze on her body. She almost starts to think that maybe their are toxic chemicals being dumped and left their just because that's put in a way where she can explain it. Seeing that the Leopard is still in quite a bit of pain, she decides to sleep next to her cage for the night just to make sure she feels better. And for the last time that night before she fell asleep, she hears the same familiar voice, but this time it says "Home".

What happens next? I would diffidently recommend this for kids that love fantasy, friendship, and talking ferrets! I've loved this series since I first read it, and I read the entire series in only a few months!
