Review on "Manga Mania Shonen" by Christopher Hart

Mangamania shonen : drawing action-style Japanese comics
"Manga Mania Shonen; Drawing Action-style Japanese Comics" by Christopher Hart
  "Manga Mania Shonen" by Christopher Hart instructs how to draw a popular type in the Manga genre, Shonen. Shonen is the Japanese Action-style comics featuring ninjas, warriors, and even magical battle Monsters. The book teaches how to draw characters in different positions, how to make them detailed and life-like, and even how to create dynamic manga comics strips to help you meet your full potential drawing Manga Shonen. I myself am more into drawing manga styles such as Shoujo right now (Which he also has a book on.), but I really enjoyed reading this drawing instructor  for it's easy to understand guides, great art, and indexes. If you want to learn the popular manga style Shonen, I would diffidently recommend this book! Reserve it at your local library, or buy it yourself!

Review on "Avalon, Web of Magic; Circles in the Stream" book 1 by Rachel Roberts

Circles in the Stream.
"Avalon, Web of Magic; Circles in the Stream" Book 1 by Rachel Roberts
It hasn't been long since Emily had moved from her old old state. Her new town is nice, but not much goes on, and school is just around the corner. Her mom works at the Vet Clinic and after seeing the commotion, she's appalled. Somehow, in the suburbs of their neighborhood, a Leopard is taken in and is in really bad condition. She wonders why no one seems to see the bright green ooze coming out of every single one of wounds, and then she begins to think the animal is talking to her! When she asks where it came from, her mother tells her that the girl in the corner of the room found out in the woods. Emily didn't even notice her the entire time! When the dark haired girl eventually leaves, she runs right into the woods. Emily's mother's Vet assistant tells her that she's the creepy kid from Ravenswood Preserve, the place where nobody dares to enter due to it's long history of strange "Monsters" lurking there. The thought of monsters seems stupid to her, because she doesn't believe they exist. Her father, a scientist, has always told her if you can't explain it, it doesn't exist. She decides to just leave the thought alone, and continue on.

     Later that night, when she checks back on the Leopard, that had apparently come out the "Haunted Woods", she still notices the light green ooze glowing through the gauze on her body. She almost starts to think that maybe their are toxic chemicals being dumped and left their just because that's put in a way where she can explain it. Seeing that the Leopard is still in quite a bit of pain, she decides to sleep next to her cage for the night just to make sure she feels better. And for the last time that night before she fell asleep, she hears the same familiar voice, but this time it says "Home".

  What happens next? I would diffidently recommend this for kids that love fantasy, friendship, and talking ferrets! I've loved this series since I first read it, and I read the entire series in only a few months!

"Grab-a-Book" Month coming this July!

   Hey again! This is an announcement that this July is "Grab a Book" month! Or maybe I should  say "Grab a Books" month. They key is to go to your local library, and check out the first 3-5
     books you see. It may be better to do it in sections like Juv. Fic. (Juvenile Fiction). You can take your time if you want to, but the challenge is to see whether or "Judging the Book by it's Cover"
  really is as affective as it used to be (Which it really wasn't all that affective). Their is no prize, btw, but I hope you learn from it. Starting July 1st, LA Awesome Books and Reviews will start the challenge. Here how to do the whole challenge;
  • Go to your local library.
  • Get the first 3 to 5 books you see in an appropriate section.
  • Read all 3 to 5 books.
  • NOTE; If you are really not enjoying a book you are currently reading for the challenge, you are free to swap out your 3 to 5 books, and can read the other from the original pick if you want. ;)
        To share your results;
  • Go to LAAwesomeReviews.blogspot.com
  • Use the comment section to share your results, Featuring the name of every book, the authors, and what you thought of them, and how it changed your perspective.
  Easy as that! Remember, it starts July 1st, so you have plenty of time before it starts. And also remember their is no prize, it's just a way to get a fresh perspective on books (Yes, real books, not E-books. Lol). Hope you help get the word out! I'll be blogging more soon! ;)

Review on "The Friendship Matchmaker GOES UNDERCOVER" by Randa Abdel-Fattah

The friendship matchmaker goes undercover
"The Friendship Matchmaker GOES UNDERCOVER" by Randa  Abdel-Fattah

    "The Friendship Matchmaker GOES UNDERCOVER", the companion to "The Friendship Matchmaker", is about the new, modern days at school after Official Friendship Matchmaker, Lara Zany, quits her job as Official Friendship Matchmaker. She's not the only one that kind of
      Misses it too though. The school has become total chaos! No one knows what to do when facing bullies, how to create OR repair friendships, and the teachers look like they're training
   for the Army just trying to get kids to stop fighting! Nothing has been the same since Lara threw out her book on the art of "Friendship Matchmaking". But the worst thing is that the school bully, Chris, is once again up to his reign of terror. Lara used to hold mediation sessions and talk to other kids on how to avoid him and/or deal with him, but she promised her new best friend,
     Tanya, that she would no longer be up to what Tanya calls "Meddling" again. But the more she sees kids having to deal with "The war zone", she feels she HAS to scratch the itch! She says Quote on Quote;
                            "It's not my fault I have a heart of
                                                              24 carrot Gold."

   So when a new foreign exchange student, Majur, comes into the picture and Chris starts up his games again, she knows what she must do. Become the schools UN-Official Friendship Matchmaker. Even though Lara, Tanya, and their new pal Emily, are best friends, a little time away
    Couldn't hurt right? Well, she regrets the decision later when Tanya and Emily become the best of friends. Each other one and ONLY best friend. Even though she's upset and still a little hurt about the whole situation, knowing that she herself was once a "Total Loner by Choice", she keeps pushing ahead as being Officially UN-Official. She gets pretty far too. The peace on the playground is slowly being restored, friendship are back to the way they used to be
    when they were whole, and everybody as actually having an enjoyable experience going to school. And then there's the new student, Majur. His village back from he had come from had been attacked, he lost friends and family, and he doesn't speak too much English. After trying
   hard to find Majur a friend, or at least someone to play with him on the playground, he seems hopeless. Up until she and the boys in her class see him kick a soccer ball. He was so good he took the spot of best player away the original best player! Chris. And when he finds out that his friends start to barely acknowledge him, he seeks the help of the Official UN-Official Friendship Matchmaker.

     After trying long and hard, Lara still couldn't find a boy in class he hasn't called names, bullied, or just generally didn't like. Is their any hope for Chris now that he's taken 2nd place in the one thing he truly cares about? And will Tanya and Emily find out about the Official Un-Official business going on and leave Lara in the dust? Find out yourself in "The Friendship Matchmaker GOES UNDERCOVER"!

Review on "Dork Diaries; Tales of a NOT-SO Graceful Ice Princess" by Rachel Renee Russel (Girls Juv. Fic. Chapter Book Series)

Tales from a not-so-graceful ice princess
"Dork Diaries; Tales of a NOT-SO Graceful Ice Princess" by Rachel Renee Russel
    In this chapter of Nikki Maxwell's life in "Dork Diaries", the holidays are coming and she's hoping she'll get a phone, her Aunt Mable will FINALLY seem to like her, and after hearing some news in gym class, how to skate. Ice Skate. Their gym teacher announces  that they'll be participating in the "Holiday on Ice" show to help raise money for the charity of their choice,
    but Nikki soon finds out that finding a charity will a be a LOT easier than skating for one. The moment she skates on the ice, she falls on the ice. But, her Awesome skating BFF's beg her to skate with them, and of course, she says yes. The only other skaters that actually have
    What it takes to impress their Ice Skating Olympic Gold Metal winner judge and coach is Mackenzie Hollister. She knows that Nikki can't skate, and she's set out on a making sure
   the judge knows it. Plus, the local pet adoption center, Fuzzy Friends, is at risk of closing! Nikki wants to skate for them to help keep them open, but Mackenzie is going around bragging
     about how SHE already got the spot. Nikki comes to the adoption center and finds out something shocking but might just be the best news she's got yet, and then hears a tragic story about how one of the volunteers parents died and has to stay with their other family. The story is heart breaking, but the victim is even more! Rachel Renee Russel has again made another great book for her series "Dork Diaries". 5 stars!
NOTE; This book series is meant more for girls and ages 10 and up for female character base.

Review on "Friend or Fiend?" by Judy Blume (Both Juv. Fic. Chapter Book Series)

Friend or fiend? with the Pain & the Great One
"Friend or Fiend? With the Pain & the Great One" by Judy Blume
 "Friend or Fiend; With the Pain and the Great One" by Judy Blume was actually an interesting book I guess you could say, but only contains only has 109 short pages in it's 7 stories. The whole book itself is pretty much 7 stories. It all starts with the introduction; Meet the Pain. "The pain is what Abigail, "The Pains" big sister, calls him. And then there's "The Great One". That's Abigail. But that's what "The Pain", Jake, calls his big sister. The both introduce themselves in the book for an understanding of their complicated relationship and the way they comprehend their sibling. Abigail stating her brother Quote on Quote;

"My brother's name is Jacob Edward but everyone calls him Jake.
Everyone but me. I call him the Pain because that's what he is. He's a first-grade
pain. And he will always be a pain-even if he lives if he lives to be one hundred
years old. Even then, I'll be 2 years older than him. I'll still know more about
everything. And I'll always know exactly what he's thinking. That's just the way
 it is."

  And Jake (The Pain) says, also Quote on Quote, about his sister;

"My sister's name is Abigail. I call her The Great One because she
  thinks she's so great. She says "I don't think it, I know it!" When she says
  that I laugh like crazy. Then she gets mad. It's fun to make her mad.
  Who cares if she's in third grade and I'm just in first?"

     As you can see the 2 main characters have a lot of sibling conflict throughout the book. But with this books easy reading, fun stories, hilarious plots and great lessons, this book is perfect for kids with siblings, young ones, and even older ones. I would diffidently  recommend this book. 4 stars
